Our charity:water Update!

At Soma, we believe everyone should have access to clean water. That’s why every time you buy a Soma product, we donate to our partner charity: water. These contributions go directly to sustainable, community-owned water projects in developing countries.

Since 2017, You, the Soma Crew, have helped bring clean water to over 5,000 people and build 48 water projects in 7 different countries! We wanted to share some incredible projects that have been made possible thanks to YOU!

Most recently, we were able to support our partner charity: water efforts in:

  • Madagascar, East Africa, that gave 476 people in the Atsinanana region access to clean and safe drinking water thanks to 14 Piped System Tap Stands. You also contributed to the $1,131,831.05 granted to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) which ultimately funded 708 water projects and served 25,212 people total.
  • Mali, West Africa that officially kicked off construction and is six months into the 21-month timeline with HELVETAS, one of charity: water’s local partners. Their water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs focus on improving access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by strengthening the capacity of local communities, civil society, the private sector, and local and national governments.

In the next few months, the construction of piped systems will accelerate. Once construction is complete, HELVETAS will test the water quality and hand the projects over to the Water User’s Associations for ongoing maintenance and management. Meanwhile, HELVETAS will coordinate training covering topics such as sustainability, sanitation, and hygiene.

  • Nepal, South Asia where we funded 27 Piped System Tap Stands. Ours along with donations from charity: water’s global community of supporters—has since been put to work as part of a larger grant that will bring clean and safe water to 37,315 people living in the Karnali Province.

All 69 planned water supply systems are under construction, and three of them are nearing the completion stage. Total sanitation awareness activities are ongoing at households in all communities. Following coordination meetings, 12 municipalities have ensured their full support for water and sanitation efforts, and two water safety plan training sessions have been completed.

Their lives will be forever changed. Thank you for being a part of the Soma Crew and for supporting charity: water with each purchase.
