Sustain your healthy lifestyle!
It can be tough to stay on top of the things we want to do when we’re balancing others and trying to keep our sanity. For example, we want to eat healthier but we’re so tired at the end of the day that ordering takeout is just easier. Or we want to exercise more but sometimes we dread it and we’re just so tired. Or we want to get a good night’s sleep but bingeing a cliffhanger show always seems to win out. Here’s the thing: all of that is okay in moderation.
Good Sleep, Better You
We don’t know about you, but we’ve been avoiding the phrase “the new normal.” “The temporary normal” seems a better reminder that this is not forever. Still, whatever you’re calling it, we’re now well into the global pandemic and we’ve got a long road ahead. Despite our inactive social lives (anyone else Zoom-ed out?) we are not getting enough good sleep—the stress is real. While we can’t fix the stress for you, we can help you improve your sleep another way: hydration.
Stay hydrated the Soma way!
According to research out of the Institute of Medicine’s Food and Nutrition Board, the general recommendation for daily water intake is 11 glasses for women (2.7 liters or 91 ounces) and 15 glasses for men (3.7 liters or 125 ounces). Sound like a lot? Fear not, there are several smart ways to meet your daily hydration requirement. And yes, there’s even an app for that.
Debunking the Plastic Myth
Plastic is responsible for climate change, pollution, the death of our ocean life, and for the environmental calamity that we are experiencing, right? Well, not exactly. Here’s the thing. Nowadays, there’s a rush to be binary – everything either IS or ISN’T – either you’re with us or against us, you’re bad or good: but few things are that simple. And certainly not plastic. Let’s debunk the plastic problem.
Cold Brew Season
It has arrived. In all of its humidity-filled, sweaty glory: cold brew season! But that’s the thing, there are more options than just cold brew (though, we’ll be real, cold brew is AMAZING). Here are our favorite summer cold beverages beyond our BAE, water.
Ditching Single Use Plastic
IN the spirit of combating single-use plastic consumption in order to defend our oceans, we’d like to re-introduce you to the Soma Travel Straw – our solution to the ubiquitous single-use plastic straw.
Benefits of Our Travel Straw
Last week we launched our Soma Travel Straw – our newest effort to combat ocean plastic and eliminate single-use plastic straws. Today we’d like to tell you exactly why it’s so great, because there are a lot of reusable straws out there and we know you have options. Though, at the end of this, we’re going to show you why it’s no contest.
Introducing The Soma Straw
We designed and developed the Soma Travel Straw over the course of a year, troubleshooting every aspect to ensure perfection – and we hope we’re close.
The good news is that simply because we can’t go to restaurants, movies, or large events, we’re already spending less. And you know what else is pretty great? One of the wonderful byproducts of sustainability is saving! Here are a few of our tips for spending less this spring.
Our hydration needs haven’t changed, but our habits have, and our Soma bottle, brew bottle, carafes, and pitchers are being used in overdrive right now. Which means, we need to clean them more often. Because they’re water products, they are susceptible to mildew and other types of gross growths. Here’s how to clean each of them so that you don’t have to worry about anything invading your water or coffee.
The weather is warmer, the sun is shining, and our skin is – still thirsty. Crazy, huh? Most of us are diligent through the winter months (when the air is too clearly dry) about our water intake, putting our humidifiers to good use, and applying serums that go deep into our skin to keep it impeccably hydrated.
Dining Al Fresco!
We don’t know when we’ll be back to dining out, so we have to get creative in the here and now. Here’s how we plan to do that.
Last week, in our blog about the brilliance of coffee we talked briefly about ritual. Today, we’re going to extoll the virtues of ritual in today’s world. There are endless benefits to daily rituals and now more than ever we all need comfort, self-care, and purpose.
Coffee, coffee, coffee.
#WFH? It’s the new normal for a lot of us. And it’s a real adjustment for many reasons (not the least of which is that we are trying to work during a global pandemic!). We’ll admit, we’ve been having trouble staying focused. This week we want to try to work on that. And here’s where we’re going to begin: coffee, coffee, coffee.
